2. Arm Bar (Jujigatame) from Closed Guard

The Arm Bar (Jujigatame) is a classical Jiu Jitsu technique students must fully understand to advance their games. While typically learned early in your BJJ journey, you must perform this submission numerous times correctly before it becomes natural / fluid in sparring. The arm bar is one of the most common attacks used in jiu-jitsu. Although this setup uses the gi, this technique is very effective without the gi as well.

 

As Sensei Nardu Debrah explains the technique, you should focus on the following key points:

 

  • Activate your legs one on opponent's hip, the other leg clamps down opponent's back at a 90 degree angle (you must twist to obtain this position)
  • Make a top lock and and bring your opponent toward you, further breaking his / her posture
  • Center opponent's wrist along your sternum (center line) and forearm blocks opponent's neck (prevents their forward motion into you)
  • Pass your leg over opponent's face and move to secure the submission

As always, do not hyper extend your opponent's arm and quickly release the submission when your opponent taps. Safety first with all submissions.

TASK

To successfully complete this task, you must demonstrate the technique exactly as Sensei Nardu describes with your training partner in a controlled, safe environment. For bonus points, include video of yourself executing the technique during sparring / live rolling (note, this is optional and not required for you to pass this task).
