The "Up-and-Over" sweep or the "Hip Bump" is one of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu's basic techniques that works well with or without the gi, in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and in pretty much every style of grappling. Learning the hip bump as described by Sensei Nardu Debrah is important because:

  • The technique combines well with the Guillotine and Kimura to create effective attack combinations
  • Provides an option when you can not break your opponent's posture in closed guard
  • Leverages your hips to apply the sweep instead of the much weaker arms

A common mistake of the Kimura is to not control your opponent's arm allowing them to post and attempt to thrawrt your sweep.

TASK

To successfully complete this task, you must demonstrate the technique exactly as Sensei Nardu describes with your training partner in a controlled, safe environment. For bonus points, include video of yourself executing the technique during sparring / live rolling (note, this is optional and not required for you to pass this task).
